The 16th International Royal Voice Festival of Orthodox Music Took Place in Our Convent
Choirs from Belarus and Russia took part in the 16th International Royal Voice Festival of Orthodox Music, held in St Convent on October. Initially, the Royal Voice Festival was also held after Easter. However, next year instead of the Easter festival there will be Easter concerts and other events — and there typically are plenty of such events happening in our Convent during the Eastertide. From now on, the Royal Voice Festival will be held only on the first Saturday after the Feast of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God.

The Rev Andrew Malakhovsky: Anyone who does not have a point of support or a helper to get out of this sea, needs an island or a ship or someone else's hand to pull him out. Likewise, a human being cannot get out of the sea of sin independently because there is no island in this sea. Many souls get drowned in this sea. Only God's hand, only the ship of the Church where we all stay now, can help us. This is why the Lord has granted us this ship — this Church. The Lord pulls us out of this sea and helps us to get rid of this sinful abyss.
Alice In The Wonderland
This is one of the stories that people call fairy tales. It happened in the world filled with children’s love and imagination. Even birds that live in the Convent’s park sat quietly on the branches and looked. The sun also climbed the highest point in the sky to be able to see everything clearly. I heard this story from the birds: they vied with each other in telling it, while the old Sun just kept smiling and nodding in approval...
Being A Christian Calls For Courage
Archpriest Andrew Lemeshonok
Being a Christian calls for great creativity and courage. No, it's not enough for me to go to church, to make the sign of the cross and light up candles, or even take communion without much thinking. No! If we accept Christ, we also accept the death of our old self. We can say that the Body and the Blood of Christ is a poison for the sin, for our old self, which is dying in pain. However, this is also the only way for a new self, which will live forever, to be born.
Support, Help, and Comfort
An interview with Anna Kovalevskaya, the head of the Visiting Nurse Service of St Elisabeth Convent
Sister Anna: Our Visiting Nurse Service is more than just taking care of the sanitary and hygienic needs of severely ill persons. The sisters are in constant spiritual contact with their patients, each of whom has their own unique character traits. In fact, it is impossible to do this job well without Christ who is in the midst of the patient and the sister’s relationship.
The Monastic Vows
Archpriest Demetrius Basalygo
St Isaac the Syrian once said, «Monasticism is the paradise». We often think of the paradise as a place somewhere in the sky, but this is not exactly right. The Paradise, the Kingdom of God is first of all a relationship between God and people and the world in the end of history. Essentially, the three monastic vows — chastity, voluntary poverty, and obedience — are a way to describe this relationship.
The Lord Gives Each Person Their Own Ministry
An interview with Abbess Euphrosinia (Laptik)
Abbess Euphrosinia: I feel that our Convent is what it is thanks to God's Providence about us. We have nuns, lay sisters, mentally challenged people, and socially vulnerable brothers and sisters who stay in our rehabilitation centres. The Lord brought us together, so this must have been his will. You don't need to become a recluse in order to fight the sin inside you.
Archpriest Andrew Lemeshonok, The Spiritual Father of St Elisabeth Convent, Consecrated The New Guesthouse
The Rev Andrew Lemeshonok served a moleben with blessing of water and consecrated a new Pilgrims' Centre on June 1. Soon, the Pilgrims' Centre will become a place where monastics, individual pilgrims and groups will be able to stay. It will be a place where they could sleep, eat, and book sightseeing tours.
Mihai Gavrilă: Living in Romania, Praying for the World
Getting to know the world by getting to know people is always an exciting undertaking. Our Convent is a hospitable place. People from various corners of the world come here, each of them not only finding something meaningful for their souls but also leaving a part of themselves here. For instance, Mihai came here in order to learn a craft. His home country is Romania but he found his second big family in Belgium. Let's begin our journey around the globe with Mihai's story.
Our Convent Organises an Orthodox Festival in Europe For The First Time
Residents of Austria and Germany will have an opportunity to learn more about Orthodox culture and get to know Belarusian traditions this summer. This is the goal of the From Heart To Heart Orthodox exhibition, organised by our Convent in Berlin on June 2-5 and Vienna on June 9-12. Its purpose — spiritual education — is especially meaningful in 2016, declared the Year of Culture in Belarus. St Elisabeth Convent will share its experience in the field of social ministry and demonstrate various kinds of church art and folk traditions.
See Our Measure, Find Our Tune…
Archpriest Andrew Lemeshonok
If we start to think about our life in earnest, it will change. We should calculate exactly what we can or cannot do. We always go for extremes — either nothing or everything. This maximalism stems from pride. «A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush», people say. This is why we need to see our measure and find our tune in this choir. We should sing louder than the world that resonates inside us.
