The ХIV International Royal Voice Festival: Full Houses For Three Days
All events of the ХIV International Royal Voice Festival gathered full house. The organisers have extended the one-day format of the festival to three days by including into the programme, apart from the traditional day of Orthodox choir singing, a premiere of the Two Andrews documentary and a live concert by Helena and Alexander Mikhailov, cinema and theatre actors and singer-songwriters from Moscow. The festival was held in three locations on these days: in the hall of the House of Moscow, in the Church in honour of the Reigning icon of the Mother of God...
Summer's Fragrant Dew
If you feel nostalgic for the sunny summer days, you might be relieved to learn that there are places where it is always present. Full-flavoured teas and acorn coffee, milk shakes and fruit salads, fresh-baked acorn buns, herbal teas of all kinds… Preparations are underway for the opening of an organic cafe on the premises of the Pilgrims' House in St Elisabeth Convent in January. Soon we will have a chance to take a break from the fuss of our everyday life, to thank the Lord for physical health…
The Golden Autumn at the Women's Rehabilitation Centre
St Sergius of Radonezh Day is the patron saint's day of our Women's Rehabilitation Centre. It was celebrated here for the fifth time this year. However, this was the first time when the full cycle of divine services was held here, including the All-Night Vigil and the Divine Liturgy. Unfortunately, the church is not finished yet but this does not prevent the sisters to say morning and evening prayers and akathists daily, asking St Sergius to help with the construction.
The Most Reverend Metropolitan Athanasios (Nikolaou) of Limassol Visited Our Convent Recently
We received a honorary guest — The Most Reverend Metropolitan Athanasios (Nikolaou) of Limassol, who is a remarkable preacher and spiritual leader — on September 28. His Eminence was greeted by Abbess Euphrosinia (Laptik), the Mother Superior of the Convent, and the sisters. The Abbess led a brief sightseeing tour around the Convent for the guests. She told them about the history of St Elisabeth Convent as well as about its current life. A meeting of His Eminence with the sisters took place after that.
A Solemn Schoolwarming Ceremony for the First Grade Pupils Held in Our School
A schoolwarming ceremony for the first grade pupils held in the Christian School run by our St Elisabeth Convent was exciting and memorable. The children gathered in the cosy school hall and went for a journey into the Land of Knowledge, accompanied by a Ladybug. The journey seems to be long but very fascinating. The kids were eager to demonstrate their talents, skills, and knowledge. They behaved confidently on stage, recited poems, solved riddles, sang, and even danced.
The XIV Royal Voice: Faith Comes By Hearing
One month prior to the XIV Royal Voice International Festival, the organising committee is actively preparing for the encounter with professional musicians and those who just love church singing. The festival will begin with a cinema programme on October 16. The traditional programme of the Royal Voice Festival, which consists of a concert of five choirs, will take place on October 17; and on October 18, we are turning a new page in the history of our festival…
A Holy Relative
Novice Jadranka (Uskokovič)
Thirty-something years ago my grandfather told me that I had another grandfather who had died in the USA and who could help me immensely. He also said that it was forbidden to talk about Ivan, that "mysterious" ancestor of mine, and that in reality he had a different name. He added that Ivan had "worked" in Church and warned me not to tell anybody anything about it because they would fire my dad. I wasn't pleased to hear that…
Mystical Supper, or How The English Language Got United With The Language of Angels
Konstantin Karmanov: Our first rehearsals made it evident that our singing was too amateurish. We had to gather seven or eight times in order to record just two chants. Nevertheless, recording sessions, or, more precisely, their inevitability, were the best motivation for all of us. As soon as I felt that it was time to do the recording, I would say, “Okay, let’s record it!” We met for recording sessions in the evenings: we would gather at around seven o’clock in the evening and warm up for the recording, which would go on until eleven, and sometimes even later.
The First Festival of the Sunday School Choir
The Choir of the Sunday School in honour of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia of St Elisabeth Convent took part in their first festival on the International Children's Day, which coincided with a very important and glorious feast — the Holy Spirit Day — this year. The concert went in one breath, as if the time stopped to let everyone enjoy the beauty and harmony of church music performed by children. The performance did not leave anyone indifferent.
Cartoons That Are True to Life
An interview with Maria Ivanova, the leader of “We Are, We Are United” Integrated Cartoon Animation Studio for Children
Maria Ivanova: When I conceived this project, I was confronted with the problem of making the classes equally and easily accessible for all the children. I realised that the only way to ensure this is to make the educational process as close to magic as possible. Cartoons are by their very nature something unique. We constantly work with the light: dimmed light, various lamps and lanterns - this is what creates the magic.
Childhood Filled with Sounds of Music
A concert of beginner musicians was held in our School in Honour of St Euphrosyne of Polotsk on May 28. The theatre hall of the Sunday School was literally packed with listeners on that day! Children from the kindergarten, pupils of the school and their parents — all came to listen to the performance of young talents. Some of the children had already had the experience in performing in front of an audience. However, there were children for whom this performance was their first one.
How Our Sisters Travelled to Zalita Island
May 24 — 116 years since Elder Nicholas Gurianov’s birth
The nuns and the spiritual father of St Elisabeth Convent went on their traditional journey to Zalita Island in the middle of spring. Polotsk and the Akathist to St Euphrosyne, a Liturgy on Zalita Island, Pskov Caves Monastery and a panikhida in the caves, a Liturgy in Nikandrova Pustyn and immersion in a holy spring — that was what this pilgrimage was like. Here is what some of the nuns had to share about the journey.
